Call for Abstracts

The 18th Annual Conference of the Canadian Association of Wound Care
“A Canadian Healthcare Crisis: Chronic Wounds”
London Convention Centre - November 8 – 11, 2012

2012 brings a new year and the CAWC conference moves to London, ON.  A familiar venue with familiar faces – but 2012 promises something new, something different.  The focus of this year’s conference is “A Canadian Healthcare Crisis: Chronic Wounds”. This is the ideal place for wound care professionals from all disciplines to share their research, educational initiatives, clinical successes and solutions. At past CAWC conferences, oral or poster presentations have provided an excellent opportunity to link with colleagues from across Canada who have common issues or interests.

1.) Call for Abstracts for posters in the following streams:

  1. Instructional/Educational Report
  2. Health Care Policy & Delivery
  3. Clinical Practice (includes case studies)

This will include 1 oral presentation per stream for the top abstract. There are no honoraria for poster presentations or orals in these streams. All poster presenters are responsible for paying their own travel, registration and accommodation to attend the conference. One copy of the textbook Chronic Wound Care 5 will be awarded to the best abstract in this session (People’s Choice Award).

2.) Call for Abstracts for ORAL PRESENTATIONS (Research Stream ONLY):

In recognition of the value of research in the field of wound care, we wish to showcase new and leading wound researchers by offering a research stream that is markedly different from other years. The following sessions will be presented in the concurrent session research stream.

i. Two sessions (1 hour each): Presentations representing the top 2 scoring research abstracts. Complementary registration to the full conference will be offered to one speaker per each abstract, plus one night accommodation.

ii. Eight presentations (12 minutes each) to be delivered in 2-one-hour sessions. Presenters are responsible for paying their own conference registration, travel and accommodation. One copy of the textbook Chronic Wound Care 5 will be awarded to the best abstract in this session (People’s Choice Award).

iii. Four presentations (12 minutes each) to be delivered in a one-hour session for new researchers who are current students or recent graduates (within the past year) of a Masters,  PhD or post-doctoral program. There will be a reduced student rate for registration.  In addition, one copy of the textbook Chronic Wound Care 5 will be awarded to the best abstract in this session (People’s Choice Award).

Best Poster Award:

There will 3 awards of the textbook Chronic Wound Care 5 each for the Best Poster per traditional poster category (other than research). This prize will be awarded one per poster, not per author. The winners will be notified in the closing plenary, and using the contact information provided.

All the necessary information that you require to submit an abstract is available below.
Abstracts prepared according to the specifications outlined here must be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word format to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)  by June 1, 2012.

Submitting more than one abstract:

There is no limit to the number of oral or poster abstracts that an author or group of authors may submit. If more than one abstract on very similar topics is submitted, the Review Committee may choose only one of the submissions to be presented.

Previously presented/published information:

Oral or poster presentations that have been previously presented or published are eligible for submission as long as previous publication/presentation is noted upon submission and provide it does not interfere with the authors’ ability to give permission to duplicate or include the abstract in any future CAWC related publications.

Copyright Agreement:

When submitting abstracts to be considered for presentation at the 2012 CAWC conference, it is understood that authors give the CAWC permission to reproduce the abstract. Therefore, the corresponding author must check the agreement statement at the bottom of the cover sheet.

To submit an abstract, you must complete the following:
 Appendix A- Abstract cover sheet
 Appendix B- Abstract submission guidelines and form
 Appendix C - A signed potential conflict of interest statement for each author
